Fijiana star Raijieli Laqeretabua has dubbed her side ‘tournament underdogs’ as they prepare to face a host of experienced and formidable teams.
“We are the underdogs in the tournament which will allow us to be focused and keep ourselves humble and do our best in the game,” she said.
“I’m confident in training and clarities have been going very well and it’s just about the game now.”
Their next challenge sees them take on South Africa on Saturday – a match, Laqeretabua believes, will be decided up front.
“They are a physical side and they have strength all around but I’m confident that my girls will bring the best game as we also have our strengths as well.
“We are really excited and I think it’s just another challenge for us and we have had a lot of positives from the game against England and a lot of work on done for the second pool match.”
On a more personal note, Laqeretabua expressed how much it means to her to wear the jersey.
“It’s always an honour to represent my home country and be able to play for the girls and to be the first Pacific team to be in the World Cup,” she said.
