Highly-rated Melbourne Rebels exciting young prospect Jack Maddocks has signed a two-year deal, keeping him at the Club until the end of the 2020 season.
The 21-year-old back has extended his contract into a third and fourth season in Melbourne, following his debut in 2017.
Maddocks now boasts 16 Super Rugby caps and six tries with the Melbourne Rebels, the highlight of these a hat-trick scored against the Sunwolves in Tokyo in March.
One of the Rebels and Australian rugby’s brightest prospects, Maddocks has played in all but one Super Rugby match for the Rebels in 2018, predominantly as the starting full back covering for injured Wallabies full back, Dane Haylett-Petty.
The extremely talented youngster has committed his future to the Rebels despite interest from Australian cricket teams and continues to build on his impressive debut year, that saw him invited as a Development player to the Wallabies’ Spring Tour last November.
The Sydney-native said he was happy to continue calling Melbourne home.
“I’m really happy to be staying at the Rebels. The development of the rugby program and the environment that we’re creating under Dave (Wessels) made it a really easy decision in the end,” Maddocks said.
“We are definitely on the right track to building a long-term, successful club and I can’t wait to be a part of it.
“The Wallabies are an ambition of mine, but I know that can only happen if I play good rugby for the Rebels, so I’m looking forward to putting my head down and working hard.”
