European Champions Cup Preview: Pool 4
- 1738
With two games left in the pool stages of the competition Toulouse remain the only side able to boast a 100% record after winning their opening four games. They lead the way on 16 points with Bath and Glasgow level in second with 10 points with Montpellier completing the group with only two points to show for their opening four games.
Glasgow started pool 4 so well picking up wins against Bath and Montpellier before suffering back to back defeats to Toulouse which has now made their task of making it through to the knockout stages even more difficult. Montpellier have endured another frustrating European campaign this season and with their league form also suffering they will be expected to name a second-string team when they travel to Scotstoun on Saturday. In the reverse fixture Glasgow were able to pick up a win in France with the Scottish side having a disastrous record away from home in Europe. The two defeats to Toulouse now mean that every point is precious in the competition so Glasgow will need to get maximum points from the game if they are to have any hope of making it through to the quarter-finals.
Toulouse entertain Bath on Sunday looking to make it five wins from five with the former champions looking to seal a place in the knockout stages with a win. As for Bath they go to France needing a win or face elimination from the competition. Toulouse had a slow start to the season but now they have recovered from that slow start and have climbed up the table in the league and are on course to progress to the quarter-finals. In the reverse fixture between these sides it was a highly competitive match with Toulouse in the end edging it 21-19. Toulouse will be firm favourites but with Bath in such good form in the league can they bring that form to Europe and defeat Toulouse and keep their Champions Cup ambitions alive.
