Enari and Douglas face spell on sidelines

Head Coach Filo Tiatia has confirmed scrum half Ereatara Enari and lock Levi Douglas will miss the start of the new BKT United Rugby Championship season.

Enari – who linked up with the Men of Gwent from the Hurricanes in Super Rugby this summer – suffered a hamstring injury during the pre-season victory over Hartpury at Rodney Parade.

The 29-year-old has undergone successfully surgery and will now be ruled out for an extended period as he begins his recovery and rehabilitation.

Lock Douglas picked up a knee injury in the victory over Scarlets at Llandovery RFC in pre-season.

Tiatia said: “Ere is out for a little while. He has had an operation on his hamstring, which he did towards the back end of the Hartpury game after scoring a couple of tries, which is unfortunate.

“He felt something was there was hopeful that it was not too serious. But he needed an operation so he will be out for a little while.

“Levi picked up an injury against Scarlets in his leg, but there is no operation needed which is good. He will be off for a little while.

“It’s a long season here and talking to Ere before his operation I said to him it’s a long season and you will get a lot of footy.

“We’re excited with the group that is going to be picked for this game, and the boys just need to front up for each other.”
