Eddie Jones' future with England to be decided next week

After a decidedly bleak 2021 Six Nations campaign, a decision on Eddie Jones’ future with England will be made next week, according to a report in planetrugby.com.


The season will be dissected by RFU chief executive Bill Sweeney and a selected panel over the next seven to ten days before a verdict is reached.

Jones will present the findings of himself and his coaching team to the panel. Some of the criticism levelled against include the following:

  • Loyalty to out-of-form players
  • Failure to solve an on-field disciplinary crisis
  • Conservative tactics
  • Inconsistency in results and performances and the
  • The team’s failure to reach its expected potential

While numerous fans and ex-players appear to be calling for Jones’ head, it is understood that he is still held in very high regard within the RFU which will, naturally, help his cause.

While England do appear to be in decline – having now dropped to fourth in the World Rankings – Jones has a track record of successfully pulling struggling teams out of the mire, and with the 2023 World Cup not too far off, a big shake-up in the coaching staff would be a bold move.
