Conor Murray to pick his moments to deliver key messages

British and Irish Lions captain and scrumhalf Conor Murray says he will pick his moments to deliver key messages wisely having stepped up to replace Alun Wyn Jones as the tourists' leader.

The Irish scrumhalf admitted that he is wary of not overusing his voice given the vast number of leaders there are within the British and Irish Lions' ranks.

"That's probably been said by Al at the start of our camp and the mission plan has been clearly identified and everyone has a really good understanding of what we're trying to do," Murray said.

"I agree with Robin [McBryde] in terms of the sacrifices that we've all made to get here and leaving loved ones at home.

"Again, we're very lucky to be able to do this but it's a strange one to describe. I think the mission is really, really clear in the players' heads. When you pick your time to speak, you make sure you've thought about it and it's a point you really want to get across.

"There is loads of experience in the squad and all the players know what we're trying to do, how we're trying to play, people are really busy in their mini groups, there's an awful lot going on, so you've got to be careful about picking your times to speak or deliver a message like that.

"A lot of it has been said when we met up in the Lensbury Hotel in London a good few weeks back. We spoke about it there and then in Jersey. Now it's about getting down to work, working really hard with each other and for each other."

The tourists face off against the Johannesburg-based Lions on Saturday at Ellis Park.
