Christian Wade to make rugby return with Racing 92
- 1990
After nearly four years away from the sport, Christian Wade will return to the rugby pitch this weekend representing Racing 92 in a Supersevens series.
The former England and Wasps speedster quit rugby back in 2018 to pursue a career in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills.
Having returned to England earlier this summer following the expiry of his Bills contract, Wade has hinted at a return to rugby and will dust off the cobwebs in Pau this weekend.
Wade told Coventry Live that he is 'really excited to be making an appearance with Racing 92 at the super sevens' and that 'It is a great opportunity to dust off the cobwebs and play a few minutes here and there. Nonetheless, I’m going to thoroughly enjoy myself.'
With Premiership budgets squeezed, Wade is still a free agent and Coventry Live report that the agreement with Racing 92 is just for this weekend's sevens.
However, with Racing 92's new signing Regan Grace set to miss a large chunk of the season due to injury, there is an opportunity for Wade to join the French outfit as cover. Fijian speedster Niko Matawalu has also been named in Racing 92's squad for this weekend's sevens event.
Wade spent eight and a half seasons at Wasps, making 165 appearances and scoring 82 Premiership tries which sees him rank fourth overall in the competition's all-time list.
