Clermont got their Champions Cup campaign off to the perfect start with a 53-21 thrashing of Harlequins in the opening round. Clermont opened the scoring with an early penalty before running in three tries to storm into a 22-0 lead. Harlequins got on the board with their first try, but Clermont would have the final say of the half as they slotted a penalty to take a commanding 25-7 advantage into the break. The second half saw both sides full of running as the game opened up, with Clermont crossing for a further four tries and Harlequins running in two of their own in an entertaining affair.
