Boland Cavaliers' last 3 coaches

Boland Cavaliers' last 3 coaches

Boland has had bitter-sweet moments on the field throughout the years, and that has resulted in the constant reshuffling of its coaches.

As Brent Janse van Rensburg has decided to step down as the side's coach, we take a look at the team's last 3 coaches.

Abe Davids (2013-2014)

After Boland failed to reach the First Division (second tier) play-offs, they asked brought in Abe in 2013, brother of Boland Rugby Union President Francois Davids.

Unfortunately, without much contribution to the team, Abe was suspended after he failed to bring forward his coaching qualifications to the board of Directors.

Dewey Swartbooi (2015-2016)

Former Springbok coach Peter de Villiers was reportedly in line to get the job in 2015, but the Boland top brass had a change of heart and appointed Swartbooi instead.

Swartbooi has been an assistant coach at the Boland Cavaliers since 2012 and has played Super Rugby for the Bulls and also played for Boland from 2006 to 2010.

The team had a torrid season under Swartbooi, finishing second from bottom in the Currie First Division, with only two wins from 10 matches.

Brent Janse van Rensburg (2016-2016)

Van Rensburg has been scattering his knowledge throughout the Currie Cup teams, having coached Golden Lions, EP Kings and Border Bulldogs' Craven Week team for two years – winning eight of his nine matches in charge of the side.

The 36-year-old helped Boland to qualify for the Currie Cup Premier Division and also performed admirably with the EP Kings last year. He has also coached NMMU to the semi-finals of the Varsity Cup for the first time ever in 2013.

Van Resnburg has reportedly agreed to become the new head coach of the Pumas for 2017.

Former Springbok coach Peter de Villiers has been mentioned as a possible successor to Brent Janse van Rensburg as Boland Cavaliers coach.

The team finished seventh on the nine-team Currie Cup premier division log in 2016‚ winning two of their eight matches.
