Bath to battle Chiefs at The Rec.

After posting their 4th victory in the last round, Bath face the challenge of duelling with a wounded Exeter at the Rec. in the first of Saturday’s fixtures.

Bath snuck past Northampton at Franklin’s Gardens in the last round in a 1-point result that was joyous to the former and agonising to the latter. The first half was all Northampton as they ran in a trio of tries to build a score of 19 points. With the clock in the red after 40 minutes, Bath initiated what was to be a fantastic comeback as they scored from close range via Zach Mercer.

Rhys Priestland knocked over a couple of penalties as Bath inched closer to Northampton’s score before Mercer dotted down his second try to snatch a 1-point lead which Bath defended valiantly until the final whistle.

Exeter were unable to come away from the AJ Bell Stadium with the ‘W’ against their name last weekend as Sale put their rivals down 25-20. The Chiefs were not helped by the fact that they lost their captain Jack Yeandle to a red card fairly early on in the match, but Sale did well to attain victory all the same.

Exeter, while still second on the log, are being crept up on by Harlequins who are now just 2 points behind them. Bath still have a long way to go and currently occupy 10th spot on the overall standings.

When last these two sides locked horns, it ended in a massacre for Bath as Exeter ran over them by 40-3.
