Anscombe & Williams ruin Lyon’s Champions Cup debut
- 1388
A brilliant performance by the Cardiff Blues as they came away with a hard-earned victory over Lyon at the Matmut - something that not many teams have been able to do in recent times.
The Blues ruined Lyon's debut appearance in the competition with Gareth Anscombe and Tomos Williams staring in the clash.
Here are our Top Performers from the clash:
Gareth Anscombe - Cardiff Blues
A simply outstanding performance by the Welsh international as he earned the man of the match accolade.
Anscombe has expressed that he wants to start at no.10 for Wales but it's hard for Warren Gatland to do that when he performs like this at fullback.
He maintained a 100% kicking accuracy at the tee, scored a blinder from 60 metres out and made more running metres than any other player.
Gareth Anscombe is playing a blinder today for @cardiff_blues.

Tomos Williams - Cardiff Blues
The young halfback missed out to the man of the match award to his fellow teammate was a serious contender for the accolade.
Like Anscombe, Williams scored a try but bettered his fullback by assisting one.
He made 70 running metres and ran great support lines throughout the game.
Lionel Beauxis - Lyon
A solid game from the veteran standoff. He controlled the game well but unable to inspire his side to victory.
His kicking game out of hand was superb and was unlucky not to maintain a 100% success from the tee.
Loan Goujon - Lyon
Another consistent performer for Lyon. The powerful back rower carried well throughout the game and scored the opening try of the game.
He made 52 running metres from his joint game-high of 11 carries that was matched by his replacement, Carl Fearns.
Ellis Jenkins - Cardiff Blues
Another captains' effort by the international openside who has truly settled in the role for his side.
He was excellent over the ball and made a crucial turnover in the dire minutes of the game inside the Lyon 22 when Lyon were looking to get their last score but instead conceded 3 points.
He also made a great interception in the build up to Wiliams' try.
What a gift 🎁
