Chiefs scrum-half Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi has emerged as the front-runner for the third All Blacks half-back spot after attending the "foundation" day in Wellington on Monday.
Players based in the North Island from the Chiefs, Hurricanes and Blues are attending a day-long session in the capital to fast-track coach Steve Hansen's preparation for the June three-Test series against France.
Selectors confirmed on Monday that 'Triple T' would be among those in attendance, Tahuriorangi has made the most of his chances with the Waikato-based franchise this season, impressing with his speed of delivery and sharpness around the park.
The summer addition from the Hurricanes started the season as back-up to first-choice Brad Weber at the Chiefs, but received an opportunity to step into the regular staring role when Weber picked up a wrist injury.
Brad Weber, Mitchell Drummond and Blues skipper Augustine Pulu are all candidates for the third-choice scrum-half role behind Aaron Smith and TJ Perenara, though Tahuriorangi seems to be the chosen option for the June series.
