All Black Legend Off To Japan?

All Blacks legend Dan Carter is weighing up his options after revealing that he would play for another two years.

Reports in the French bi-weekly rugby newspaper Midi-Olympique suggest that the 112-test All Black will leave Racing 92 in June to take up a lucrative deal with a Top League side in Japan.

The 35-year-old is in his final year of his contract with the Parisians and is reportedly close to agreeing a deal with a Japanese club, which is likely to be his last contract as a professional player.

Carter left New Zealand rugby after the successful 2015 World Cup and helped Racing 92 claim the Top 14 title in 2016, defeating Toulon in the final.

This week, Carter was named as an ambassador for the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan which certainly intensified rumours about his departure from France.

However, Racing 92 co-trainer Laurent Labit told Le Parisien last month that Carter's injury problems may prevent him from playing for another year.

"He's thinking right now," says co-trainer Laurent Labit. "Will he sign for another year? We do not know it yet. He will only do it if he is sure that his body is following. " 

The 35-year-old has for now only clarified that he will one day return home.

"I'm kind of going through those thoughts at the moment – whether I stay or whether I look at other opportunities," Carter told Radio Sport's Martin Devlin last month.

"Home, New Zealand, is where the family is and that's a big part of my life. My personal family, my two boys and beautiful wife, they've sacrificed a lot coming over to the other side of the world to be with me so it would be nice to return the favour one day and move back to New Zealand so they're able to spend time with our families; spend time with their cousins and have the same upbringing we did.
