'I don't like defending' - Paolo Garbisi
- 1961
Italy and Montpellier flyhalf Paolo Garbisi says that he is not a fan of defending.
Speaking to Midi Olympique ahead of the Top 14 final between Montpellier and Castres, Garbisi spoke honestly about his dislike for the defensive part of the game.
"I have to be honest with you, I don't like defending. I'm not going to say that's my favorite part of this sport, but you have to do it." Garbisi said.
"People have often asked me this question. I think it's not difficult to defend. It just depends on the desire you have to throw yourself into tackles. A guy in the street is capable of making a tackle."
"It is above all mental that you have to have the click because technically, it is not hard."
The Italian international is in line to win The Bouclier de Brennus in his first season with Montpellier and says that he was under no illusion that the Top 14 would provide him with a tough test defensively.
"In a championship as physical as the Top 14, I understood that the 8 and the 12 were constantly going to get me. I have to respond now. And too bad if the next day, my shoulders hurt." he added.
