Scotland take a 19-6 lead over Japan into halftime. Scotland struck first with a try six minutes in. Japan got on the board with a penalty shortly after, but missed a second shot at goal after 15 minutes. Ten minutes later, Japan edged ahead with a second successful penalty. Scotland ran in their second try approaching the half hour and crossed for a third on the stroke of halftime for a 13 point advantage at the break.
