Ireland take a 15-9 lead over England into halftime. England got off to a horrific start, picking up a red card after just a minute of play. Ireland slotted the resulting penalty and capitalized with a try shortly after to race into an 8-0 lead. England got on the board with a penalty around the midpoint of the half. England then missed a penalty just before the half hour mark, but were successful a few minutes later to reduce the deficit to 8-6. Ireland ran in their second try just before halftime to lead by nine, but England added another penalty with the final play to trail by six points at the break.
