The Welsh club have triumphed in 20 of their 34 encounters against Edinburgh but their sole success in their last six visits to Scotland came at Murrayfield in February 2019.
Cardiff have won three of their five URC matches this term but have not prevailed away from home since a 29-28 win over Scarlets in Llanelli in May’s Rainbow Cup clash.
The Scottish outfit are also yet to taste defeat at their new stadium with the last three meetings between the sides all being won by the home team.
Edinburgh’s only loss in any competition this season came via a last-gasp Leonardo Marin drop goal in a 28-27 defeat at Benetton in Round 2 of the URC.
Cardiff Rugby Director of Rugby Dai Young said: “I’ve got my fingers crossed until we kick off in this crazy world that we’re in. We’ve been more or less ready at this of the week for three of four games now, but they’ve gone awry. We’re really looking forward to getting a game and we’re pretty hopeful it’ll happen this week. Everyone are keeping their fingers crossed that we get across the white line and get a game going. We’re looking forward to it because we have a lot of boys who haven’t played for a long time now. For some of these players, the last game they played was against Dragons so everyone is excited to get out and play. I was really pleased with the squad that played in Europe while we were away. Players like Seb Davies and James Botham had to take much more of a leadership role. In that period, if anything, they had to mature because when we’re all here there’s more senior guys to lead. It definitely helped a number of players, and they’re two prime examples. They’ve taken confidence from that and I’d like to think it brought us a bit closer together. It was a difficult period but we stuck together and hopefully we’ve come out as a closer unit.”
Edinburgh Rugby Head Coach Mike Blair said: “The squad are obviously champing at the bit play competitive rugby after a number of weeks without fixtures and that has certainly shown in training this week, with guys putting their hand up for selection across the board. We’re delighted to welcome back a number of players from injury and those guys selected will be desperate to put in a good performance and make the most of their opportunity. Cardiff are a quality team with a number of experienced internationalists in key positions. The challenge for us is to impose our game for 80 minutes.”
Josh Turnbull will captain Cardiff while Jason Harries will line out against his former club on the wing.
Henry Immelman, James Lang and Blair Kinghorn all come back from injury & are named in Edinburgh's match day XV.
