Spiky, tetchy, full of needle – the last time Saracens faced Harlequins was in last season’s Aviva Premiership semi-final back in May, and an eye-wateringly physical encounter rarely dipped under a simmer.
On a couple of occasions, most notably during a frank exchange of words between Joe Marler and Chris Ashton on the stroke of half-time, Allianz Park came very close boiling point as the hosts prevailed 31-17.
