Kieran James Crowley, born on August 31, 1961, is a New Zealand rugby union coach and former player who is currently the head coach of the Italian national rugby team. He has an extensive coaching background, having coached various teams and clubs throughout his career.
As a player, Crowley represented the New Zealand All Blacks, primarily playing as a fullback. He made his debut for the All Blacks in 1983 during their British Isles tour and went on to have a successful playing career. Crowley was a part of the All Blacks squad that won the Rugby World Cup in 1987 and also featured in the 1991 World Cup.
After retiring as a player, Crowley transitioned into coaching, initially taking on a coaching role at Taranaki, his former club. He gained recognition for his coaching abilities and was appointed as the head coach of the Canadian national team in 2008. Under his guidance, Canada had notable successes, including finishing as runners-up in the Churchill Cup and securing back-to-back wins against the United States.
In 2016, Crowley took on the role of head coach at Benetton Treviso in the Pro14 competition. He had a positive impact on the team, leading them to notable performances and achievements. Crowley's coaching abilities were recognized when he was named Pro14's Coach of the Season for 2019.
In May 2021, it was announced that Crowley would become the head coach of the Italian national team, succeeding Franco Smith. His tenure as the head coach of Italy began in July 2021 and is set to continue until June 2024.
