Onisi Ratave remains a Benetton Lion

Benetton Rugby locks down its left wing for another two years. The green and white franchise is pleased to announce the contract renewal of Onisi Ratave until 30 June 2026 . The Fijian winger, who joined the Treviso court in the summer of 2022, will wear the green and white colors for another two years. Ratave, over the months with the Lions shirt, has established himself as one of the most physically and speedy wingers on the international scene.

179 cm tall and 100 kg, Ratave was born in Rewa, Fiji, on 6 June 1992. He is a player with an absolutely formidable mix of technical and physical qualities. Onisi has among his main skills the ability to break the tackles of opposing defenses repeatedly. Furthermore, he is an extremely fast player and a very talented finisher. Ratave initially grew up as a rugby player in a local team in Rewa, then played for Namosi in the Skipper Cup, the Fijian championship, and definitively exploded into rugby that counts in 2020. He received the call from the New Zealanders Bay of Plenty in 2021 and in 'NPC played three matches scoring three tries. He was also part of the Fiji Islands Rugby Seven selection in 2020 and 2021. In 2021 he also featured in the extended Flying Fijans team that faced the All Blacks. In the 2021/2022 season he moved to Fijian Drua, a team that belongs to the best championship in the southern hemisphere of Super Rugby. In ten appearances he scored six tries, leaving his mark with his powerful accelerations. Two years ago he moved to the Lions, with whom he has so far made 17 appearances and 9 goals, of which 8 in the Challenge Cup and 1 in the URC. Ratave has also racked up an endless array of broken tackles, linebreaks and offloads of the highest quality. Not only that, the Fijian is also very applied in the defensive phase and always present in the tackles made.

“ I thank the club for giving me the opportunity to extend my contract, I am extremely happy and thrilled to be able to continue making my contribution for the current season and for those to come. It was my desire to continue fighting for these colors in the search for bringing home some prestigious trophies” declared Onisi Ratave.

General manager Antonio Pavanello said: “We are very satisfied with the contribution Onisi has given to the team so far. A player who manages to stand out for the energy he brings to the pitch, making himself spectacular in the offensive phase and concrete in defence. This is undoubtedly an important element for our sporting project and I am sure that this news will also make our fans happy."
